Update: On Jan. 22, 2020, the Cook Country Medical Examiner’s Office announced the official cause of Juice Wrld’s death, which occurred after a seizure, was an accidental overdose. 

The rapper Juice Wrld, whose real name is Jarad Anthony Higgins, died at the age of 21 on Sunday after experiencing a seizure.

According to TMZ, the performer had just landed at Chicago’s Midway airport when the seizure occurred.

Juice Wrld was an up-and-coming voice in the music industry, known for songs like “Lucid Dreams” and “Bandit.” In his time as a performer, he quickly amassed millions of followers across social media. His music often touched on important topics like depression, addiction and public health issues that affect communities of color.

The rapper has just turned 21 on Dec. 2. It is unclear from initial reports what caused the seizure.
