Contestant With Crippling Anxiety Disorder Gives Stunning Performance on ‘America’s Got Talent’
“I couldn’t step out of bed, I didn’t want to face the world,” 20-year-old Anna Clendening says in her America’s Got Talent audition (below). “And now I’m facing thousands of people.”
Before performing Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah,” Clendening revealed that she’s lived with depression and anxiety disorders since she was 14. Her father says music has helped her through her darkest moments.
Watch her audition below — one that earned her a standing ovation and a hug from judge Howie Mandel, who lives with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD).
“Life is filled with peaks and valleys,” Mandel says to Clendening after her performance. “You have seen and experienced a lot of valleys. Tonight, young lady, you are on a peak.”
