Daughter, Fans Find Wonderful Way to Pay Tribute to Robin Williams
Following his sudden death, Robin Williams’ fans rallied in several ways to pay tribute to the comedic legend – including donating money to a charity that he cared deeply about.
William’s daughter, Zelda, 25, set up a fundraising page where people can donate to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, an organization that her father routinely worked with. Her goal of $5,000 was exceeded in less than a day after the link to the page was posted on a Reddit thread devoted to her dad. As of Wednesday afternoon, the fundraiser had received more than $13,000 in donations.
St. Jude is an organization that ensures sick children quality treatment without having their families worry about extravagant medical bills.
Robin Williams was a staunch advocate of its work. He starred in several St. Jude commercials and even spent free time visiting one-on-one with patients and making the children laugh, according to CBS’ Memphis affiliate News 3.
“I think Robin Williams was one of a kind. I don’t know if he can be replaced. It is definitely a loss we are going to face,” Kelly Schulz, St. Jude vice president of marketing, told the network.
The organization released the below statement thanking the comedian for his work over the years:
Today the world lost an iconic man and entertainer, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital lost an incredible friend and supporter. We send our deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of Robin Williams.
Mr. Williams generously gave his time to raise awareness and funds for St. Jude and for our patients battling childhood cancer. His humor brought bright smiles and laughter to our patients and families and his generosity deeply touched the hearts of all who knew him. He and his family remain in our thoughts and prayers.
Those who wish to donate to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in honor of the Academy Award-winning actor can do so here via his daughter’s fundraiser page.
