This Touching Love Story Shows the Importance of Companionship When Facing Life’s Obstacles

Together, Lori Sousa and Peter Maxmean are facing life’s hardships with love and commitment.

Sousa met Maxmean at her job in a work placement program for people with intellectual disabilities in Providence, Rhode Island, according to the New York Times Documentary below. It was love at first sight.

I saw him, and I don’t know, this might sound a little funny,” Sousa says in the video below, “but I looked at him and said, ‘I’m going to marry that guy. That’s my soul mate.’”

Now, the couple, who both have intellectual disabilities, are facing financial challenges while planning a wedding and beginning their lives together. Their unfaltering love and support for one another is truly moving.
