Netflix’s “The Haunting of Hill House” has been renewed for another season. Instead of a sequel to the first season, the series will become an anthology, meaning season two will feature a new cast, new characters and a new haunted location.

On Twitter, Netflix revealed the next installment of the show will be called “The Haunting of Bly Manor,” based on the 1898 horror novella by Henry James entitled “Turn of the Screw.” Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy, who created season one of the series, will direct and produce the newest installment.

Last year, “The Haunting of Hill House” was generally well-received in the mental health community. As Mighty contributor Chelsea Lutz-Boslett put it in her article, “Why ‘The Haunting of Hill House’ Is a Perfect Portrayal of Mental Illness“:

After finishing the show, I was left with so many emotions. One emotion I didn’t expect going in was feeling happy that a show portrayed mental health in the light it deserves. It wasn’t pretty and it didn’t show a simple medication or a therapy session somehow making it go away. It showed that these illnesses can stay with you for years, or even your whole life. The actors did a fantastic job. I hope more people will watch this show because it deserves more recognition for the honest and haunting portrayal of mental illness.

Though many applauded the show’s portrayal of mental illness, addiction and sleep paralysis overall, a scene from season one, episode five (“The Bent-Neck Lady”) caused folks on Twitter to warn one another about an extended suicide scene.

Season two of “The Haunting of Bly Manor” is set to premiere on Netflix in 2020.
