Hunting for a remote job that accommodates your needs when you live with a disability, chronic illness or mental health condition is already a full-time job. You may experience relief when you send off another application and a jolt of excitement when you get a positive response back — and a request for an interview. But that job interview can throw you for a loop.

One of the best ways to work through job interview nerves is to practice. Work with a friend or even write out your own answers to common job interview questions. FlexJobs highlighted 14 common interview questions you might get from a customer service position, but many of these apply to any job. Per FlexJobs, some questions you might want to be prepared for include:

  • How do you react under pressure?
  • What background and experience sets you apart from other candidates?
  • What contributions would you make to our team?
  • What skills do you have that relate directly to the job?

The interview poses another challenge for some people who live with a chronic condition or disability — whether or not to disclose your condition. Chronic illness career coach Rosalind Joffe told The Mighty this decision and the timing of any health disclosures will be personal for every candidate. If your illness won’t impact your ability to do the job as listed, you may opt not to tell your employer about your health. If you envision needing accommodations, you might want to disclose your illness to set yourself up for success early on.

“You want to start with, ‘I’m telling you this because I know I can be a high performer. But I need these things to make sure that I can do my absolute best,’” Joffe recommended. “Most importantly, you want to make it clear that you’re in charge, this is not going to be a burden on your manager or on the company.”

While you’re practicing your interview skills, get a jump on your job applications at these seven companies with now-available work-from-home jobs:
