“Everybody Loves Raymond” and “The Middle” actress Patricia Heaton announced in a recent Instagram video post that she is celebrating three years of sobriety this month.

She says: “Hello, friends! I’m just finishing up my, what, 3½-mile walk around the reservoir. And it’s July, when we celebrate our nation’s freedom. Also, I’m celebrating three years of freedom from alcohol for me. So I just want to share that with you.”

Heaton is sixty-three years old and in no way is that holding her back from living her best life.

In an interview with PARADE magazine, Heaton said that she gave up drinking alcohol because she said that she was “looking forward every night to cocktails.” She said that she noticed her physical and mental stability has improved significantly.

In 2020, Heaton published a book openly speaking about this new phase of her life called “Your Second Act: Inspiring Stories of Reinvention”.

Heaton also told PARADE that her sobriety has been partly inspired by her family and young grand children.

“My kids are in their mid-20s and I’ll probably be in my 70s by the time I have grandchildren. I want to be healthy for them,” Heaton said.

She also said her inspiration to stay afloat has been her faith, having been inspired by the sermons of Timothy Keller, pastor of New York City’s Redeemer Presbyterian Church. If you are struggling with alcoholism or a relapse in sobriety, please consider reaching out for help.

There is so much more to life than being tied to a substance, and there is nothing wrong with getting help when you need it.
