Colon Cancer

Community, Stories & Info

Colon cancer (or colorectal cancer) is cancer located in the large intestine or the lower part of the digestive system. Most cases of colon cancer occur in individuals over 50 and typically begin as noncancerous polyps (abnormal growths) that later become cancerous if not removed. When caught early, colon cancer is highly treatable. Treatment typically includes surgical treatment for removal of polyps and chemotherapy. Though it is highly treatable, colon cancer is the third most common cancer in the US and the second leading cause of cancer death (about 50,000 lost each year).
Organizations exist to provide support and resources to individuals experiencing cancer in their lives.
