Fanconi Anemia

Community, Stories & Info

Fanconi anemia (FA) is a rare genetic disorder that leads to low levels of white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets, which puts the individual at higher risk of subsequent symptoms and conditions including infections, fatigue, anemia and excess bleeding. It is categorized as an inherited bone marrow failure syndrome. Individuals with FA are at an increased risk of developing cancers of blood-forming cells in bone marrow, and tumors. Treatments include medicines to improve blood counts, bone marrow transplant and transfusions.
