Hashimoto's Thyroiditis

Community, Stories & Info

Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, also known as chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis, is an autoimmune disorder in which the immune system attacks the thyroid and leads to chronic inflammation. It results in the long-term impaired ability of the thyroid gland to produce hormones, and leads to a decline in function and underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism). It is the most common cause of hypothyroidism, and most commonly occurs in middle aged women.
