Hunter Syndrome

Community, Stories & Info

Hunter syndrome, or mucopolysaccharidosis II (MPS II), is a rare genetic disorder caused by a missing or malfunctioning enzyme that results in a harmful build up of complex molecules that are normally broken down. This build up eventually causes permanent, progressive damage that affects appearance, mental development, physical abilities and organ function. There currently is no cure for Hunter syndrome, and treatments involve the management of symptoms and complications.
