Intellectual disability is a below-average cognitive ability that originates before age 18. It is a disability characterized by significant limitations in adaptive behaviors and intellectual functioning, and is indicated by an IQ of 75 or below. About 1-3% of the population has an intellectual disability, which is most commonly associated with autism, Down syndrome, Fragile X syndrome and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder.
