Juvenile Diabetes Type 1

Community, Stories & Info

Juvenile diabetes, or Type 1 diabetes, is a condition in which a child’s body does not produce an important hormone called insulin. The body requires insulin in order to transport glucose, which a simple sugar used for energy, from the bloodstream to cells. Symptoms include increased thirst and urination, extreme hunger, weight loss, fatigue, irritability and blurred vision.

While there is no cure for Type 1 diabetes currently, insulin injections are given to replace the missing insulin, and to keep blood sugar levels stable.
