Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis

Community, Stories & Info

Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), also known as juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, is a condition in which a child’s immune system mistakenly attacks the body’s tissues. This causes inflammation in joints and other areas of the body, joint pain and stiffness, which can last for a few months or a lifetime. Some types of JIA can cause complications such as growth problems and eye inflammation. JIA is the most common type of arthritis diagnosed in children, and treatment focuses on controlling pain and preventing joint damage.
