Limb amputation is the surgical removal of all or part of an extremity including the arms, legs, hands, fingers, feet or toes. Nearly 2 million Americans are living with limb loss, and there are many causes of amputation. Causes include vascular disease (diabetes, peripheral arterial disease), severe injury, cancer, infection, neuroma and frost bite.
