Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome is a rare, neurological condition that causes recurring swelling of the face and lips, facial paralysis or muscle weakness, and a fissured tongue. Onset is commonly in childhood and early adolescence, and the causes is unknown. The episodes can vary in severity and duration, and can sometimes become permanent.
