Mesothelioma is a benign or malignant tumor of the tissue lining the lungs, stomach, heart and other organs. It usually begins in the lungs, and signs include trouble breathing, pain under the rib cage, weight loss and pain, swelling or lumps in the abdomen. Malignant mesothelioma is a rare type of cancer is similar to lung cancer, and is often caused by long-term exposure to asbestos. Treatment may include surgery, chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy.
