Moebius syndrome is a rare craniofacial/neurological disorder that causes weakness or paralysis of the facial nerves. It is a congenital and nonprogressive disorder that can also cause respiratory problems, sensory integration dysfunction, visual impairments, sleep problems, and autism spectrum disorders. Individuals with Moebius syndrome are born with a small chin and mouth, and have an unusually shaped tongue, which contributes to speech and swallowing problems.
