Pancreatic cancer is the cancer that begins in the tissues of the pancreas, which is the organ near the lower part of the stomach that produces enzymes that aid digestion and hormones that manage blood sugar. Pancreatic cancer is often not detected in its early stages and commonly spreads rapidly to other organs. Signs and symptoms include diabetes, weight loss, jaundice and upper abdominal pain that spread to the back. Cancer screening is recommended to those with pancreatic cysts or a family history of pancreatic cancer. Treatments include surgery, chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy.
