Pervasive Developmental Disorders

Community, Stories & Info

Pervasive developmental disorders (PDD) is an umbrella term that refers to a heterogeneous group of disorders characterized by developmental delays in socialization and communication. There are five PPDs, which include autism, Asperger syndrome, Rett syndrome, childhood disintegrative disorder and PDD-Not Otherwise Specified. PPDs are lifelong disorders that affect an individual’s social, cognitive, affective and motor development. Although there is no cure for PPDs, research suggests that early intervention can lead to better outcomes.
