Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a common neurological disorder that causes the urge to move the legs. Other symptoms include an uncomfortable or unpleasant sensation in the legs, that may seem itchy or a “pins and needles” feeling. RLS commonly interferes with sleep, and it is considered a sleep disorder. Causes include chronic illnesses such as diabetes or Parkinson’s disease, medications such as antidepressants or cold medicines, and pregnancy. Treatments include lifestyle changes and medications.
