Rett Syndrome

Community, Stories & Info

Rett syndrome is a rare genetic neurological disorder that affects the way the brain develops, and causes severe impairments. It is a progressive disease that affects the use of muscles that control movement, coordination and communication, and can also cause seizures and intellectual disability. It almost exclusively affects females around 6 months of age, who seemed to develop normally prior. While there currently is no cure, treatments focus on improving communication and movement and further treatments are being studied.
