Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is a rare, cancerous tumor that originates from normal skeletal muscle cells. It almost exclusively affects children, but there are only about 350 cases diagnosed per year in the U.S. RMS can develop in almost any part of the body, most commonly in the head or neck, and symptoms depend on what part of the body is affected. Treatments include chemotherapy, radiation therapy and/or surgery to remove the tumor.
