Rheumatoid Arthritis

Community, Stories & Info

Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects the body’s joint linings, and can damage the skin, eyes, lungs, heart and blood vessels. The immune system attacks the body’s tissues, most commonly in the wrist and fingers, and causes pain, stiffness, swelling and loss of joint function. It is more common in women and often starts in middle age. Treatments include medications, injections, joint exercises, rest, and surgery.
