Seizure disorders are characterized by two or more episodes of uncontrolled seizures. There are a number of causes of seizure disorders including hereditary causes, birth defects, environmental hazards, other neurological disorders, immune-system conditions, or psychiatric conditions. Seizures can sometimes lead to brain damage, lowered intelligence, and/or permanent mental and physical impairment. Treatment for seizure disorders include medications, surgery to remove the part of the brain causing the seizures, or diet change.
