Emily Ward worked as a registered nurse for 43 years. In August 2012, she was diagnosed with pleural mesothelioma, a rare cancer caused by asbestos exposure. She retired from nursing soon afterward. But Emily took on part-time jobs at a physical therapy and fitness center, and a pharmacy in her hometown of Cornish, Maine, to help others. She does everything she can to assist other mesothelioma survivors cope with the disease and make the best decisions for their health and well-being. Emily also cares for the last of her four beloved dachshunds and enjoys eating out with friends and chatting about life's happenings.
