Joanna is a mother to two autistic young adults, a pediatric occupational therapist, educator and advocate. She has been supporting the Southwest Washington community In these roles for over 22 years. She currently contracts with the Washington Education Association and provides advocacy and support for teachers and families. Her background is in sensory processing, neurology, behavioral disorders and trauma, and supporting diverse learning styles, neurodiversity and inclusion in our school systems. Her youngest son was diagnosed with epilepsy at 16. She lives in Vancouver Washington with her partner Todd, her sons Ethan and Dan, their dog Wonky and some chickens. In 2020 her family started a Christmas tree farm on their property to support Dan’s passion for Christmas trees and a family love of the outdoors. They hope to develop it into a supportive workplace for disabled people.
