My name is Lauren and I am a blind college student form Iowa. I was born with a genetic condition called Oculocutaneous Albinism, which causes a lack of melanin pigment (coloring) in my skin, hair, and eyes. Many people say I don’t look like I have albinism, this is because of the specific type of albinism I was born with. I have developed some pigmentation in my skin and hair as I have gotten older. Due to the lack of pigment in my eyes and the additional eye abnormalities associated with albinism I am considered legally blind. I take on the world everyday with my crazy, loving, sassy, caring, black labrador guide dog Sheba by my side. I love baking, photography, and puppies. Currently I am studying to become a social worker and hope to work with underrepresented populations.
