3 Ways to Boost Self-Confidence If Your Weight Has Fluctuated Due to Illness
Chronic conditions and weight fluctuations often go hand in hand. Chronic pain, medications and side effects of such can lead to increased or decreased appetite. Sedentary behaviors, such as having to sleep or rest more, can also cause weight changes. I for one have gained weight due to fibromyalgia, anxiety and depression. Due to the relentless pain, both physically and mentally, I spend a lot of time isolating myself and sleeping or emotional eating. Because of this, none of my prior clothes fit anymore, and I have had to do a complete wardrobe changeover. So, I have come up with some tips for fellow warriors on how to re-gain your self-confidence and heighten your self-esteem after your body has changed.
1. Find your fancy
Find a fashion trend(s) you like and go for it. Make this an excuse to splurge a little and re-invent yourself. If you like the boho-hippie look, go for it. You do you, boo-boo. Buy the clothes you love, need and want, just in a different size. Wear the clothes that make you feel good, hot, fancy, professional or whatever it is you are going for. Don’t just wear anything that fits just because it fits. Find your clothing passion and go for it!
2. Size is just a number
I know we may all be sick of hearing this. But who cares, throw out the notion that skinny is the only form of beauty. Buy the clothes that fit you now, not clothes you hope to fit into “if/when” you lose weight. Go a size up for comfort’s sake. Especially if you struggle with chronic pain or hypersensitivity. On that note, find the right fabric too. This is a necessity! Fabrics that are too soft or rough may activate unwanted reactions such as tickling or irritation feelings.
3. Find self-esteem boosters
Join a class, group, self-help book or course who’s goal is to increase self-esteem. Use the knowledge you learn. Some of it sounds ridiculous but it works. Do the mirror work, talk yourself up and keep logs of your progress. It really does work, trust me!
There are many ways to re-gain your confidence and inner bada**. All you have to do is be willing to try new things, try things on and love yourself unconditionally.
