Hello friends in the Mighty Community! I’m a new contributor here, and thought I’d share a little story about coping with disasters when you’re basically broke.
Short story; we had a 2009 PT Cruiser that ran with virtually no problems for 7 years. This past July. The doo doo hit the fan. We dropped roughly $1,200 into it. 2 days after the last repair, we were headed to a minor league ball game with friends from high school. Tailgating, free parking, free tickets, jersey giveaway night. As I took the exit, no gas at the pedal. Fuel pump died, and we were looking at at least $600 in repair and tow fees.
A couple of weeks later, some friends literally gave us a 2012 Nissan Sentra. A very generous and gracious gift. Two months and 4 days later, took the hubs to the eye doctor and when we tried to leave, the car was stuck in Park. Looking at $75 tow and about $400 repair.
For a change, my coping skills kicked in to the point I felt I could fall asleep. No wailing, bitched or screaming. We actually had to laugh at the irony of it all.
So, friends, do your level best to keep $500-1,000 in a savings account for unexpected crises. Buy roadside assist with your car insurance. Get life insurance as soon as you can. Practice your coping skills and don’t waste vital energy giving in to anger and frustration. Last night I mindlessly binge watched Orange is the New Black on Netflix. Sure made my own problem into much better perspective.
Be peace to one another! #DisasterPreparedness #coping #LaughOutLoudAid
