I may be writing this a bit early, but in regards to the Highland Park, Illinois July 4th parade shooting, which is not far from where I live, there are 'theories' that the shooter has a mental illness. For those who have not heard what happened, a 22 year old male gained access to a business rooftop and open fired with an assault rifle on the parade and onlookers. Six were killed and dozens injured. The shooter was caught 8 hours later.
I think as a society we buy into the phrase "Who in their right mind would do such a thing?" That is an easy way out. People are in their right minds if they carry out a plan to murder others. Some people in this world are just intrinsically evil.
The shooter's uncle says, "he was a loner, living in the basement, he was a rapper but there was no indication he would do something like this." There are always signs. While I have not personally viewed any, it is said he had some disturbing videos on YouTube.
I get tired of hearing that this person or that person has a mental illness. They said the same thing about the Uvalde Texas shooter. I have a mental illness, as well as million others who do not go around mass murdering people.
Why can't people accept that there is true evil in this world and leave mental illness out of it?
