@penda2014
I had a rough childhood. On the outside it looked normal but the inside was anything but. I’m now an adult left to clean up the mess and learn things I was supposed to learn as a kid. On top of the resulting mental illness from childhood trauma, I have physical health problems that complicate things even further. Despite everything I want to help as many people as possible so feel free to reach out if you ever need a shoulder to lean on.

Pain Relief

I need help finding pain relief!
I’m a fibromyalgia patient along with osteoarthritis and joint hypermobility syndrome. I’m 2 weeks pre-op which means I can’t take ibuprofen or my CBD oil which are my go to treatments for pain. The condition of my liver is up in the air (blood work says minimal problems, scan says lots of problems) so Tylenol is off the table.

WHAT CAN I DO?!??

I’m in some of the worst pain I’ve had that isn’t a ruptured ovarian cyst(I’d almost prefer that to be honest). I can’t sleep, can’t walk, and want to cry from the pain. I hurt all over and I have to do another 40+ hour work week this week after finishing a 45 hour week only 6 hours ago.

Any advice is appreciated!

Joint subluxation

How can you tell if a joint, specifically my thumb, is subluxed?

It’s been bothering me for over a week and my normal technique to get it back isn’t working. I had the chiropractor try to get it back on Thursday and even he couldn’t get it to budge. I thought it got better over the weekend, but today I was typing and using the laptop at work and all of a sudden it started hurting quite a bit more. The pain spread through the thick part at the base of the hand/thumb and down my arm. I can’t make a fist or grip the steering wheel without pain. I contacted my doctor and he said he doesn’t think it’s a true subluxation and that I should talk to the hand surgeon when they do my carpal tunnel release surgery on May 18th.

What would you guys do? I really don’t want to wear a brace 24/7 for 3 weeks....

Post-vaccine thoughts.

I had my second shot of Pfizer yesterday. Honestly I was bracing for the rad (not) side effects that I keep seeing on social media. But to my delight, I woke up this morning with zero side effects other than my sore arm. I feel totally fine.

I know there isn't any way to really tell why some people have a 24-hour fever or whatever else, and some people do not. But I do often wonder if my years on immunosuppressants and living with a crap immune system actually HELP with stuff like this. I imagine my system is already used to intruders and fighting, that maybe it's (ironically) stronger than others? My husband always gets a little flu-ish after the flu shot, and I never feel anything.

That's my one unscientific theory. What have other peoples' experiences been like?

Disclosing depression/anxiety at work

I've decided that I will probably accept the promotion at work tomorrow, but I feel like I need to tell my boss that I have some limitations. In my current position, I am able to manage because it is very structured, contained, and sometimes repetitive. The new position will be less so, and I am concerned about anxiety flare ups and depressive apathy and overwhelm. I'm particularly concerned about writing reports on the computer (which will be a daily task) since one of the reasons I had to stop working on my masters was panic related to writing on the computer.

This is what I'm thinking of saying, but I would really appreciate some feedback.

I need you to know that I am not functioning at the top of my game right now. My mental health hasn't been great. I've had some difficulty accessing supports over the past year, partly due to covid, but I am actively working on it. I need you to know this because it means that sometimes tasks may take longer than usual to complete or I may need to structure my day differently sometimes.

What do you think? Should I add or remove anything?
