I am a feminist with epilepsy. I believe information is the key to equality and fairness, so I spend my days translating disabilities and employment research and policy gobbledygook into language everyone can understand.

How would you finish this sentence? "I've had days when..." #CheckInWithMe

I wish more people told me it's OK to have day when you don't take a shower.

Days when you're stuck living with "I did the best I could, even if it didn't feel like enough."

Days when school or work or adult responsibilities feel like too much and you don't know where to turn.

Or on the flip side, days that you want to last forever, so you should soak in being in that exact moment as much as you can.

Let others know it's OK to have days when...
Because we could all use more reminders that it's OK to be wherever you are.

Advocate for epilepsy

I want to be an advocate for epilepsy at my high school. I want to raise awareness about how serious epilepsy is and first aid for seizures. I am a passionate person when it comes to teaching everyone in my school how people with have the same range of intelligence as anyone else and giving them insight about how has affected my life. I want people understand and support those who live with it like me. Most importantly, i want people to know that and seizures are not something to laugh about and that all the myths surrounding are not true

Random question for everyone

Totally random question for everyone, but does anyone else with epilepsy experience unexplained de ja vu? I have it all the time and it’s been said that this can be associated with epilepsy.
Thanks!

Stayed up all night on New Years and now I’m paying for it. Had a Tonic Clonic seizure the night after, which was right before our family vacation. Learned my lesson never to do that again. ugh...

High-functioning?

I’m what is described as a high-functioning epileptic and mentally ill person. I lead a pretty normal life. I’m a music performance student, make some money with odd musical jobs. However I feel like, despite what seems this strong, hard-working and relatively successful person, everything is just falling apart around me. My seizures are the most under control they’ve been in the 3 years I’ve had it, but they’re still frequent. I’m having less suicidal thoughts than a year ago and yet they still seem to be taking me over when I least expect it. My anxiety comes and gos, some days I can walk on stage and perform to a large audience on my own yet some days I can’t even open my front door or even get out of bed.

People might seem like they’re coping and even people who know them well can believe this front they put on. I’m at the point in the endless cycle of life’s doom where I am just completely fed up with this crap and want to be more normal. Not to fall on the floor when it’s least inconvenient. Not to suddenly feel an urge to hurt myself or worse at a random time. Not to have to cancel plans again because I feel to mentally exhausted to cope. Just a day with some relief from my crazy head would be a godsend right now. #Epilepsy #Depression #Anxiety #Suicide
