We asked people in our Mighty mental health community to let us know which mental illnesses they think we don’t talk about enough.

Transcription:

Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)

BPD is described by the inability to regulate emotions effectively, which can lead to episodes of uncontrollable emotional intensity.

“Because of the stigma, many mental health professionals don’t want to work with us. We are kind, compassionate people who feel everything deeply.”

Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD)

C-PTSD manifests through chronic trauma that continues or repeats for an extended period of time.

“I was never in a physical war, so people assume I can’t have PTSD. No one knows what I went through and how it affects me today.”

Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID)

People with DID have two or more distinct identities or personality states.
“DID gets treated as entertainment for horror or drama films, and in real life it’s treated by society with ignorance.”

Agoraphobia

Agoraphobia is a type of anxiety disorder characterized by fear and avoidance of certain places or situations that cause panic.

“It’s not about being scared to leave the house; it’s about avoiding triggers of panic, of being ‘stuck’ and unable to ‘escape.’”

Schizophrenia

Schizophrenia affects how a person thinks, behaves and perceives reality.

“I feel like this mental illness is always overlooked because it seems scary. I wish people realized people with schizophrenia are people and not their illness.”

No matter what you’re living with, keep talking about your experiences.

Everyone deserves to know they’re not alone.
