Chronic illness does not just go away during the holidays.

Transcription:

I’M NOT BEING RUDE — MY CHRONIC ILLNESS DOESN’T GO AWAY OVER THE HOLIDAYS.

I can’t make it to your holiday party because I’m having a bad flare up.

But I’ll celebrate by sending you a holiday card.

I didn’t buy you an expensive gift because my medical bills are piling up.

But I’ll make you a personal handmade gift.

I can’t eat your holiday treats because my medicine is making me nauseous.

But I have some creative holiday recipes I’d love to share with you.

I haven’t decorated my house because it’s too painful to reach and lift.

But I enjoy all the photos and videos of people’s elaborately decorated homes.

I don’t have travel Plans because my fatigue leaves me on the couch all day.

But I love having friends over to watch holiday movies.

I’m not a “scrooge” —

I’m just trying to get through the holiday season while taking care of my health.

The holidays can be extra demanding on those of us with chronic illnesses.

I really want to be part of the festivities, but I need to do what’s best for me,

and I shouldn’t feel guilty for that.

Please know I still want to celebrate in a way that’s comfortable for us both.

It means so much when you are understanding and inclusive.

I’m doing my best this holiday season.
