Hospital gowns just got a much needed makeover

Traditional hospital gowns aren’t always comfortable, and they don’t provide much privacy.

But these new gowns still allow medical professionals to access parts of the body, while also maintaining a person’s comfort and dignity.

“What you guys have accomplished is you’ve given me access to both sides. So this is really good.”

The kimono-inspired design was created by Care+Wear in partnership with students at the Parsons School for Design.

And they made sure to include patients and doctors in the process.

“Every patient is different and has a different opinion and experience in a hospital gown. We have to take all of that into consideration.”

“We are a company focused on improving the patient experience. You can’t usually do that unless you have patients actually come and be a part of the process.”

“It seems like I could be way bigger and still fit it.”

The innovative design features:

Wide sleeves with plastic snaps for IV access, a front pocket for medical devices, side pockets for personal items, and a specially designed backside to keep people covered.

“The next time for you and your loved ones, that you’re in the hospital, to have a little more human element in the experience and be able to wear an amazing patient gown that is going to remind you that you are still a person and there’s still a bright light ahead of what you’re going through.”

The reimagined gowns are being tested at smaller hospitals in the Maryland area, and are available for purchase on the Care+Wear website.
