Talking Last Cut with Samantha Paige

Hi, my name is Samantha Paige.

I’m the creator of the Last Cut project.

I am an artist, a mother, a BRCA previvor, a thyroid cancer survivor.

The Last Cut project is about asking the big questions in life and taking a look at the significant decisions or “last cut moments” as I like to call them.

It was really born in the moment where I was deciding to have my implants removed with a preventative double mastectomy.

It really became apparent to myself and to Last Cut photographer, Lisa Field, that there were so many commonalities and I wanted to get out and having conversations with other people who made bold decisions in their lives.

And other people who I saw were making choices to create a life that felt like their own.

Because it’s hard often to live a life that feels authentic to who we are.

There’s something really profound that we can learn from talking to each other.

Lisa and I have been friends for almost 10 years.

When it popped in my mind that I wanted to go deeper with the explant and to really talk about it, I knew she was the right person.

You feel as if you’re in the room and that’s because I allow her in because I trust her.

There can be a lot of magic that comes through trusting someone else with what you’re going through.

It has made all of these big decisions that I’ve made and a lot of what I’ve gone through have a deeper meaning to them then take it out into the world and create community around it.

I hope that it provides some inspiration or comfort to others to know that they’re not alone.

I think the main place where we’re really active and love engaging with out community is on Instagram.

And it’s @lastcutproject, we’re also @lastcutproject on Facebook.

We never know what will happen when we open up and share a part of ourselves.

There’s a truth that lives in the body, the voice of who you really are.

I would just encourage people to get clear n what they need to do so that they feel connected to who they are.
