Full-time positions:

Account Manager

We are looking for an organized, detail-oriented self-starter who can work directly with brand partners to bring helpful resources to The Mighty community. Teamwork is important for this role, as you will need to work  collaboratively across teams to bring impactful client projects to life.

Responsibilities will include:

Pre-sale:

  • Building media plans
  • Helping on proposals and program ideas

Post-sale:

  • Acting as a single point of contact for daily client communication
  • Executing sold program elements
  • Maintaining account stability with key clients
  • Coordinating campaign workflow cross-departmentally
  • Ensuring client retention through excellent service and communication
  • Providing insight into campaign performance by reporting to clients

To do this well, you’ll need:

  • A minimum of 2 years of digital media experience
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree
  • A proven track record in a client-facing role
  • Strong knowledge of campaign metrics and goals (i.e. CTR, CPA, etc.)
  • The ability to manage client communications and expectations in a deadline-driven environment
  • Experience with 3rd-party reporting platforms preferred
  • Experience working with healthcare brands preferred
  • Genuine interest in serving a community of people facing health challenges and disabilities

This is a full-time position. Our preferences is for candidates located in the New York City area, but we will also consider candidates in the Los Angeles and Chicago areas. Associate Editor, News & Lifestyle

The Mighty is looking for an editor who wants to help revolutionize the way people in the disability, chronic illness, rare disease and mental illness community consume health information. If you are someone who loves distilling complicated topics in an easy-to-understand way and thrives in a fast-paced environment, we want to hear from you!

The associate editor is responsible for writing, editing and packaging stories relevant to our audience. This includes lifestyle pieces, breaking news and detailed guides about the conditions we cover. The position requires the ability to produce multiple stories per day as well as work on long-term editorial projects. The associate editor reports to our editorial director of news & lifestyle.

To do this well, you’ll need:

  • Exceptional writing skills and a sharp eye for editing (we’ll give you a test)
  • A knack for finding breaking news from across the web
  • To be comfortable doing research and speaking to a variety of health experts
  • Deep understanding of how to frame a story to attract a large audience — writing compelling headlines is crucial
  • Experience using WordPress or similar digital publishing platforms
  • Familiarity with Google Analytics and SEO
  • Experience posting stories across a variety of social media channels like Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest
  • The ability to work quickly and to help out other coworkers as needed (we’re big on teamwork)
  • A genuine interest in the topics we cover — disorders, diseases, disabilities and mental illnesses
  • At least two years of media experience.

Director of Insights

Reporting to the Chief Revenue Officer, you will focus on leading and shaping our go-to-market strategy and insights product offering to generate revenue from the research industry, pharma, biotech and health category. This role will expand over time to build and develop a market research team, an account management team and a business development team. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of research and insights (both quantitative and qualitative) and be familiar with the R&D industry within pharma, biotech and health.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and implementing an Insights Revenue Development Plan across research, recruitment and analysis
  • Developing standard and custom research solutions and a monetization process that includes team structure, pricing and execution
  • Supporting current and prospective clients in achieving their research goals
  • Cultivating and developing business relationships with senior influencers and decision makers in the research industry
  • Developing and presenting professional sales presentations and proposals
  • Communicating with key internal teams to help drive innovation and ensure flawless execution

To do this well, you’ll need:

  • Prior exposure to the functional areas of market research, including surveys, recruitment and analysis
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a business development or a sales role
  • A bachelor’s degree and/or an MBA or advanced degree in business or related field
  • History of presenting to and negotiating with executive-level decision makers
  • Experience navigating client development and generating new business
  • Preferred experience managing partnerships with research, pharma, biotech and health companies
  • A self-motivated attitude with attention to detail and driven by delivering results
  • Excellent problem solving and negotiation skills at both the strategic and operational level

Director of Strategic Partnerships

We are looking for Directors of Strategic Partnerships across a few categories:

  • Pharma
  • Health (hospital networks, pharmacy, insurance)
  • CPG, retail, tech, corporate, nonprofits

Reporting to the Chief Revenue Officer, you will focus on shaping and developing client relationships within your category. The role will expand over time to build and develop a high-performing sales team, drive results for clients, and grow revenue. The ideal candidate will have delivered results in traditional and digital media environments and have existing category relationships with key clients and agencies. A consultative selling approach and a strong desire to seek new opportunities are a must.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and implementing a Category Sales Development Plan across the entire platform and all products
  • Generating monthly territory forecasts to track and predict revenue on a monthly basis
  • Keeping informed of market conditions, competitive landscape and category opportunities and challenges
  • Developing and presenting professional sales presentations and proposals
  • Applying a consultative selling approach on a consistent basis, in order to create strategic opportunities
  • Cultivating and developing business relationships with senior influencers and decision makers across the category
  • Communicating with key internal teams to help drive innovation and ensure flawless post-sales execution

To do this well, you’ll need:

  • Minimum 5 years of sales experience in the digital space with strong category relationships across agencies and clients
  • A bachelor’s degree and/or an MBA or advanced degree in business or related field
  • History of presenting to and negotiating with executive-level decision makers
  • Experience navigating a long sales cycle where new business generation is a must
  • Preferred experience with selling content, insights, and programming
  • An extremely self-motivated attitude with attention to detail and driven by delivering results
  • Excellent problem solving and negotiation skills at both the strategic and operational level

Fall 2018 Mental Health Editorial Intern — for academic credit
For The Mighty’s mental health editorial internship, your personal experience with mental health challenges is an asset. We’re seeking an intern who’s passionate about helping the mental health community connect and share their stories. Editing and writing experience is required. Creatively, open-mindedness and a desire to learn. 
Opportunities include:
  • Assisting The Mighty’s mental health editorial team.
  • Mastering AP style
  • Mastering The Mighty’s editorial guidelines
  • Editing contributor stories
  • Writing articles
  • Planning and implementing an internship project.

This position can be completed for academic credit. Fall 2018 Chronic Illness Editorial Intern — for credit

Our chronic illness team is seeking an intern to assist editors in all aspects of their job. Candidates should have writing experience and be able to provide samples or clips. Your personal experience with chronic illness or rare disease is an asset. Our team all have a passion for helping people with health conditions and creating content that truly means something to our community. Experience in social media is a plus.
Opportunities include:
  • Editing and framing contributor blog submissions
  • Pitching, researching and writing news and op-ed pieces
  • Creating “listicles” based on insight from our community
  • Planning and implementing an internship project
  • Pitching to our video producers
  • Assisting in day-to-day editorial operations
