The Mighty’s Spring 2020 Editorial Internship

Passionate about health? Love social media and design? Want to flex your writing skills and learn more about online media? Come join The Mighty’s editorial team this spring.

The Mighty is looking for up to three editorial interns for spring 2020. Each intern will spend the duration of their internship focused on a specific area within the editorial department. Though the internships are specialized, interns will be exposed to all aspects of The Mighty’s editorial department and will have the opportunity to attend brainstorming meetings as well as pitch stories. Interns should be college students and must be able to work in either The Mighty’s New York City or Los Angeles office.

The specializations are as follows:

Editorial Intern, Content

Dive deep into the world of health journalism with this internship. In this position, you’ll get a taste of all the different content types The Mighty has to offer. This role is great for those interested in journalism as well as those who are pre-med or interested in health care. Tasks include:

  • Assisting with research for articles
  • Writing articles as needed
  • Using The Mighty’s platform to interact with users

Editorial Intern, Social Media

Those passionate about social media will have the chance to reach The Mighty’s 3 million social media followers through platforms such as Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter and Instagram. The Mighty also has its own platform, which interns will create content for as well. If you’ve got an artistic flair, this is the position for you. Tasks include:

  • Creating and scheduling content for Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter
  • Designing images for Pinterest
  • Interacting with the community on The Mighty’s platform

When applying for the internship, please include which internship — content or social media — you are applying for. If you are interested in both, you can say both.

Interns will also have the opportunity to complete an intern project of their choosing or job application skills training where they will make a portfolio complete with a polished resume and cover letter. Many interns have gone on to work at The Mighty as well as other publications.

This is a paid internship. Candidates must be able to work in either the Burbank, California or New York City office to be eligible. People of color and those living with disabilities and illnesses are strongly encouraged to apply.

To qualify, you need to be available for at least 12 hours per week. To apply, please send your resume and cover letter to [email protected] with the subject line Spring editorial intern – [your name].
