Nerve pain can be caused by a number of different conditions (such as diabetes, cancer, Lyme disease, autoimmune disease or damage/trauma), and may result in additional symptoms such as numbness or tingling. It is believed to affect approximately 15 to 20 million Americans, but for the majority of people, the cause of the pain is unknown.
Figuring out how to manage your nerve pain can be challenging. It may take a lot of trial and error for you and your doctor to find a combination of medications, treatments and lifestyle changes that provide you with some relief. Though you should always ask your medical team before trying anything new, it can be helpful to hear what tools or techniques have helped others facing similar health challenges.
That’s why we asked our Mighty community which products (besides medication) they use to manage their nerve pain. Hopefully the following list can provide some ideas that may be helpful to you on your journey with chronic pain. If you have any additional recommendations, be sure to let us know in the comments below.
Here are our community’s recommendations.
1. Compression Wear
“Most of my nerve pain is in my legs. I wear compression pants on the bad pain days,” Lauren Divine told us. “Something about the tightness of the pants helps my nerve pain/tingling to diminish. The medication I take for my nerve pain doesn’t seem to help, despite being on the highest dose possible, so this is my go-to trick.”
Buy the compression leggings above for $29.87 from Amazon.
2. KT Tape
Jessica Heald wrote, “Kinesio tape helps me with nerve pain. I like the ‘Rock Tape’ brand [featured above] with ‘Rock Sauce’ in combination. There are videos on YouTube of how to apply it, but I have also had physical therapists apply it for me (they are trained and do a better job).”
Buy the KT tape above for $17.50 from Amazon.
3. Vibrating Foot Massager
“There’s this little vibrating foot roller (made by Gold’s Gym, bought at Walmart) that I use and I roll it down from my hip to my knee and it helps so so much!” explained Tory Rogers.
Buy the foot massager above for $12.97 from Walmart.
4. MyPainAway Fibro Cream
“FibroAway cream,” recommended Eloise Taylor. I saw it randomly and it works great for the nerve pain. It takes away that jabbing and sticking pain for me. It’s a homeopathic remedy I found at Kroger. It works great. I still have pain but it helps my nerve pain in my feet so much!”
“Fibro cream (OTC) helps with muscle spasms from RSD/CRPS and fibro,” added Ricki Pilkinton.
Buy the Fibro Cream above (2-pack) for $26.73 from Amazon.
5. Foam Roller
“I use heating pads, and I do stretching yoga and tai chi along with a foam roller, and resistance bands. And of course, just general distractions like short walks with my pup, good books and TV shows,” Emilie Welker told us.
Bridget Johnson said, “My foam roller.”
Buy the foam roller above for $21.99 from Amazon.
