Sometimes when you’re crying, it’s not because you’re sad, but because you’re frustrated or angry. Have you ever experienced angry crying? Maybe you were fired from a job, and feel that there’s an injustice. You’re mad, and in fact, you’re so angry that you can’t express your feelings, so you bottle up that rage and cry. Crying when you’re angry is normal. There’s nothing wrong with you, and it’s not that you can’t appropriately express anger. Angry crying is cathartic. It’s difficult to function when you have a build up of emotions in you, and when you bottle up anger, it’s going to come out some way. One of the ways it manifests is angry crying.
What is angry-crying?
“Angry crying” is an expression of rage, but it comes out as tears. It’s odd to think about crying as an expression of anger, but it happens for some people that way. Sometimes frustration builds up within you and comes out as tears. Let yourself feel those emotions. You’re allowed to feel your feelings, and it’s OK to be mad. Recognize that it’ll pass, and as long as you aren’t hurting anyone else in the process, allow yourself to express anger in whatever way it comes out. It’s healthy.
Internalizing frustration rather than releasing it only leads to more problems. Some people have trouble with rage. Why is that? It’s because anger is an uncomfortable emotion. It can make someone feel strange, out of control, overwhelmed and miserable. Everyone experiences anger, and learning how to process it in a way that is healthy for you is crucial for your mental health. If you don’t deal with your anger, it can be detrimental not only to your mental health but your physical health as well. Some people develop high blood pressure as a result of chronic anger issues, while others might have chronic stomach problems such as ulcers. It’s important to learn to manage your anger healthily. That way you can stay healthy in your mind and body.
Anger is not comfortable
Anger is an uncomfortable feeling, and you want to get it out. Sometimes, crying is the most effective way to release that discomfort and rage. Maybe you got into a fight with your partner, but they fell asleep, so you couldn’t express your feelings because they’re sleeping. That’s frustrating! You want to resolve the problem with them and feel relief, but you aren’t able to because you can’t talk to them, so you go into the other room and start crying. To someone else, you might look sad, but instead you’re angry. It’s a complex phenomenon and you might feel like you’re going crazy, but you’re not. You might have a hard time coping with or expressing anger, and that is a great thing to work through in therapy.
