We can change the world — just by changing our expectations!

When your child with a disability is born, you are often told all of the negatives. You are told, “Oh, he has this (disability), so he will likely never…” You are told what they cannot do. You are told what they will not do.

Yet when you factor in someone’s desires and passions, their desire to work and be a part of the community – I think you can change the world!

Here’s a huge shout out to my son who was recently hired by Bitty and Beau’s coffee shop in Annapolis. He’s only 17 and is ecstatic to have his first job. His joy when he talks about his job is infectious. He is so proud!

So let’s presume competence. Let’s assume he can. Let’s promise to see the strengths and gifts we each have. Let’s include everyone. We can change the world — just by changing our expectations!
