Mighty Member since March 2018
As a 26-year-old first time mother, who was aiming to complete nursing school within weeks of delivering my baby, everything about pregnancy was overwhelming to me, but nothing could have prepared me for the news I was to receive in my second trimester. On September 13, 2016 I received a call regarding my amniocentesis results, a call that would forever change my life and my family’s as well. That was the day I found out that my daughter, Kalisye (pronounced khal-EE-see) would be born with Down syndrome. To say that my husband, Eddie, and I were worried about the well-being of our daughter is an understatement. However, since then, our lives have been drastically changed for the better. Kalisye has turned out to be my greatest blessing, and she has already taught me so much about love, compassion, and about the power of the human spirit. Our family is just as normal as any other, we have just learned to appreciate the seemingly mundane and insignificant a little better than most. It is my aim to share my own stories and experiences with others so that I might be able to spread the same love, happiness, and appreciation that Kalisye continues to share with myself, and those around her.
