Mawiyah Patten holds and carries many identities, some with pride, others with feelings of ambiguity. She is a Black woman, a social worker, a reproductive justice advocate, an educator, a wordsmith, a person of faith, a person with depressive and anxious tendencies, and a co-conspirator for collective liberation. Her family of origin has decades of history in the U.S. southeast; Mawiyah herself is a southerner by way of southern California, who now proudly claims Durham, North Carolina, as her home. She can be found at eachlittlespark.wordpress.com, writing honestly about things you aren’t supposed to be honest about.
