Trudy was diagnosed with Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (Alpha-1) in 1996 along with several of her siblings. Before the diagnosis, Trudy had never heard of Alpha-1. However, following diagnosis, she knew she had a lot to learn – and fast. Trudy began researching everything she could about Alpha-1, despite her symptoms with Alpha-1 being minor at the time. In 2018, Trudy noticed her lung condition worsening. After routine testing of her lungs, Trudy’s doctor recommended that they work together to find a management plan that worked for her. Today, Trudy is retired and still enjoys playing golf and spending time with her family. She continues to be an advocate for herself and shares her story to motivate and educate others about Alpha-1.
