Why I'm Thankful for You, Cerebral Palsy, on World CP Day
Dear Cerebral Palsy,
We are inseparable. Never without one another, you complete my very being.
Our society has a strange ideal, a flawed view of normality and what does and doesn’t comply. Unlike the majority of our society, you and I realize normality is nonexistent because everyone’s view of normality is unique.
There are many factors that influence the world in which we live. No person’s understanding is the same, and I am sure you, cerebral palsy, will agree this is what separates us, and causes so many to appear ignorant.
We have shared every experience together. The adolescent years tested our partnership somewhat! Peer pressure and societal expectations caused us to be subject to scrutiny. It was hurtful and unnecessary.
You are my partner in crime, yet because of this scrutiny, I saw your ugliness over your beauty. But not anymore. We work in sync, most of the time anyway, always ready to smash through restrictions and whatever comes our way, together.
Your very presence has installed characteristics and values that enable us to contribute positively to society. Together we are rocking our life maze, seeing beyond that maze and living our adventure!
Thank you, cerebral palsy, you are amazing! I love you.
