How 'Wonder' Enlightened Me as a Person With a Disability
Yesterday I read the book “Wonder” — best book I have read in recent times. Auggie, the boy born with facial differences won everyone’s hearts, including mine as he taught me how to face bullies. It reminds me of similar situations I faced and how even some of my teachers failed to acknowledge my disability and were cruel.
I appreciate Auggie’s courage — the way he handled the situation by ignoring the kids who showed hatred towards him, and how his patience rewarded him with good people by his side. There are lots of good messages about how a School Head and teachers should handle kids with disabilities by giving them a safe environment, support and quality education. Mr. Browne’s Precepts are good lessons for everyone. I hope to see more such stories to create awareness among people who have no idea about the disabilities and difficulties an individual and their loved ones can face. And my Precept: I choose hope and courage.
