Current Events #elderabuse #disabilitydiscrimination

My cats found a THIRD snake inside the apartment on Saturday night. I found 2 snake eggs--one in the bedroom and one in the kitchen. Apparently, there is a nest in my room and the cats stole 2 of the eggs and have been batting them around like cat toys.

I have been battling ants in my bed since I moved in on 2/19/21 to the tune of a little over $500. I have found 2 black widows and 6 brown recluse inside since I moved in. There are also several kinds of beetles, including palmettos inside. Last Thursday, I caught an entire double-sided fly paper page full of flying insects inside in under an hour.

When I moved in I submitted a PAGES long list of repairs needed with my walk-through documentation which have barely been addressed.

Black mold is being sprayed into the unit through the HVAC system. And, there is a plumbing issue causing water to come up through the tiles in the bathroom floor when I take a shower and my neighbor takes a bath.

I have reported all of this several times. This place is unfit for human habitation and should never have been rented to me. I believe they acted in bad faith when having me sign the lease and are being intentionally negligent because they know I have no money to move.

I have received no response to my voicemail and email from Clearview regarding the snakes. I spent 2 hours being shuffled around between City, County, State, and Federal Agencies. I have been turned down for legal assistance by two agencies. And turned down by two private practice attorneys. The Area Agency on Aging Attorney called me back yesterday, barked at me, and hung up on me.

Called my renter's insurance agent to see if they would send an insurance adjuster to do an inspection and was told they are unable to. Called Kansas Legal Services and they are "unexpectedly closed for an indeterminate amount of time."

Called Adult Protective Services and opened a case on the advice of the Area Agency on Aging rep.

Called City of De Soto Building Code Enforcement and the Building Inspection Departments and was told they no longer do inspections of rental properties unless the owner is applying for a permit for improvements.

I may have an attorney through Disability Rights Center of Kansas. The paralegal is submitting my information to their legal team and they will get back to me.

My therapist called me and scheduled an appointment with me for tomorrow at 9am. The Kansas Housing Resources Corporation representative called me and gave me the codes of some pertinent legal statutes regarding my specific situation and gave me the phone number for the Community Action team which may have funds available to help me secure other housing in the event I chose to break my lease on the grounds of landlord breach of contract. I will discuss this with my case manager during my appointment with her on the 21st.

To top it all off, I reached out to my son, who lives only a 30 minute drive from me. He, basically, told me to F off.

#disabilitydiscrimination

I recently read this Ask Amy column about some nosy, entitled witch wanting to report her neighbor for disability fraud with no evidence. I was appalled at the letter writer but Amy was worse because she reinforced the writer's discriminatory attitude towards people with disabilities.
