How The 1975's Music Frees Me From Anxiety
I’ve always loved music. Growing up, it was always a big part of and my family’s and my life. Although we all like different tastes and styles, we kind of bring it all together, and it has made our music taste extremely broad. That’s why I appreciate so many different types of music.
When I was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder, I found it really hard to relax and wind down. I kind of just shut music out of my life for a while because I felt like I didn’t have room for it in my “whirlwind” of a mind. That was before I started listening to my favorite band now: The 1975.
I can’t express enough how much their music picks me up and just allows me to let go and forget all of my worries. Seeing them in concert made me shudder at even the thought of being around so many people, but as soon as they stepped on stage I felt like I was home. Completely at home, relaxed, carefree and simply happy. All the things I haven’t felt in a long time.
You’re probably wondering why I’m even writing about this? I think it’s important to recognize how much music helps you when you’re going through such a tough time. The lyrics speak to you like a friend offering a helping hand and suddenly you aren’t so alone anymore.
If by some miracle if The 1975 get to read this, I would just like to say thank you. Thank you for allowing me pick up my phone, put my headphones in and be carefree. I think that is the true meaning of music — being there in the moment; whether that’s in your bedroom, on the bus or a room full of thousands of people. You’ve allowed me to feel just a little bit more free from my mind and made me fall in love with music again.
Thank you for your music.
Love your number one fan in Manchester,
Kimberley
