Demi Lovato Co-Owns CAST Centers, a Mental Health Rehab Facility

Singer Demi Lovato, known as an outspoken mental health advocate, is now taking her commitment as a mental health advocate even further – becoming the co-owner of CAST Centers, a mental health and wellness rehabilitation facility.

On Sunday, Lovato sat down with CBS Sunday Morning to discuss her work and the treatment center, which is the same center that treated her back in 2011.

“It sounds ridiculous but, like, I kind of made a pact with God,” Lovato said. “And I don’t even think you’re supposed to do that, but I was, like, I promised, ‘If you make me a singer one day, I’m going to use my voice for so much more than singing, and I’m going to help people with it.’”

Lovato, who lives with bipolar disorder and has a history of substance abuse, credits the center for allowing her to taking responsibility for her actions, and being able to function without drugs or alcohol. “And because of that, I’m now sitting here right now alive and more successful than I’ve ever been,” she said.

It’s unclear what role Lovato will play at the center. So far, Lovato has taken the center and their mission on tour with her, promoting further advocacy and a conversation around mental health.
