MTV Halts Production of 'Catfish' After Sexual Harassment Allegations Against Nev Schulman
A woman who appeared on “Catfish: The TV Show” has accused the show’s host and executive producer Nev Schulman of sexual harassment. MTV has halted production of the popular show in order to investigate the allegations.
Aiyssha Morgan uploaded two videos to her YouTube channel on Saturday and Monday, alleging that Schulman, whom she calls “Jack,” repeatedly hit on her and asked questions about her sexual orientation. Morgan also said he made advances, such as asking her to “cuddle,” while they were hanging out in her hotel room. She declined, and he left the hotel room. Morgan also accused an unnamed female production member on the show of sexual misconduct.
Morgan appeared on the fourth season of the show. “Catfish” is now in its seventh season. She said she came forward to prevent other women from experiencing something similar.
Schulman released a statement to The Hollywood Reporter denying the allegations:
The behavior described in this video did not happen and I’m fortunate that there are a number of former colleagues who were present during this time period who are willing to speak up with the truth. I have always been transparent about my life and would always take responsibility for my actions ― but these claims are false.
MTV told the Huffington Post that the company takes the allegations very seriously and is conducting a thorough investigation with a third party production company.
“Catfish” premiered in 2012 after Schulman’s 2010 documentary by the same name. The show is centered around Schulman and Max Joseph, the other host on the show, both of whom investigate people claiming to be someone else online.
